The sciatic nerve arises from the spinal nerve of L4 through S3. The sciatic nerve runs down the posterior leg as terminal branches, the common peroneal and the tibial nerve.
The sciatic nerve is composed of the tibial and peroneal divisions which are usually bound together as the sciatic nerve passes under the piriformis muscle and moves down the posterior leg.
